You
can’t just ignore it once you start. The cover page tells you the entire story
but, it’s difficult to infer at the first glance. Once you open it, you will
find the start as watching a 3D Disney movie with divs and jins. But once
you start flowing in the emotions of Yaqub for his son Qais you can’t put it
down. Till the end of fairy tale you know what is going to follow in the rest
of the story.
As always, character mapping by
Hosseini is as real as it can ever be. The bond between Abdullah and her little
sister Pari is heart-warming. First 130 and the last 60 gives you the lead
story, the rest is filled with many short little stories of after-math of
Afghan war. Particularly the story of Roshi and Idris may just break your heart.
It’s one of those stories which leave your heart ground with multiple emotions
of joy melancholy sympathy and humanism.
If
you have read A Thousand Splendid Suns then
this one is a must read for you. If you put your heart {rather than brain} to read, you will love most of its short
stories and characters and hate as many of them. A finger must be cut to save the Hand.
